As the year draws to a close, the days fill with a familiar hustle and bustle. Homes glow a little brighter, calendars fill a little faster, and offices buzz as teams scramble to wrap up projects, clear off desks, and set their out-of-office messages.
It’s much the same for children, who rush toward winter break with visions of sledding, building snow forts, and long afternoons free from homework. When I was in grade school, I could hardly wait to make the first tracks in fresh snow.
Whatever your age, we all eagerly count down the moments until the presents under the tree are finally opened. It’s often called the most wonderful time of the year—and for good reason.
But for me, real joy lives just beyond the holiday lights—in the quiet solitude of my office after Christmas and before New Year’s Eve. In these final days of the year, I find myself looking ahead, anticipating what the new year will bring: new challenges, new opportunities, and fresh goals waiting to be shaped. It’s in this space that New Year’s resolutions begin to take form—not as lofty wishes, but as thoughtful intentions grounded in reflection. The process of pausing, planning, and imagining what’s next is, in many ways, the greatest gift of all.
So, after all the presents have been opened and the carols have been sung, I encourage you to find a quiet place to pause—take stock of all that 2025 was and imagine all that 2026 can be.
Enjoy the silence.
