This month in our Get to Know series we’re traveling overseas to learn more about Mariana Marchesini. From her home in Barcelona, Spain, Mariana works with Tamarack’s professional services team, specializing in Solifi’s Lease and Loan Portfolio Management Software (formerly InfoLease).
Why did you decide to join the Tamarack team?

Previous to Tamarack, I worked with what then was InfoLease for various other companies. At several of those jobs Dan and I crossed paths working on a number of projects. A while back I was looking for a change, and Dan was looking to bring on someone who specialized in the software, so we connected, and I ended up coming on board.
What led you to working in Equipment Finance?
When I moved to the U.S. from my native country, Argentina, I was 23 years old and looking for a job to help me establish my life there and grow in my career as a Systems Analyst. I got a job in New York for a leasing company where I was entering checks into InfoLease. I began learning more about the software in my free time and growing my skills. Since then, I have continued working with it for various different companies in the industry.
When did you move to Spain?

I moved to Marabella, Spain 18 years ago after living in the United States for 14 years. The company I worked for allowed me to work remotely, so I decided to move with my kids someplace new.
Why did you decide to continue working for a U.S.-based company and not one in Spain?
Before the pandemic, remote work was extremely rare here in Spain. I’ve had the ability to be off-site for so long that I wasn’t willing to give that up to work for a local company, going into the office every day. There is also limited ability for me to work for Spanish companies since my area of expertise is a software that very few of them use.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love to go running on the beach. I live two blocks away so I’m able to get over there at least 3-4 times throughout the week. I also enjoy reading and watching indie movies when I have time.

Another thing I like is playing rock music as part of a group that gets together here in Barcelona. Before moving to Barcelona, I played with a group that got together in Marabella. Most often I sing but I also frequently play guitar or bass. Occasionally I’ll even play drums.
What is your favorite season?
I don’t think I have a favorite season, but if I’m going to pick one it would have to be spring. I love the feeling of new life in the air as everything begins to grow again. It’s almost like nature is starting over. I also love the transition from one season to the next. I love watching as nature shifts throughout the year and feeling the temperatures change.
